This was my first time doing a drawing through FireAlpaca believe it or not
And yeaaaaa... everyone is wearing bunny suit in this drawing cuz why not

Oh well
But the only thing i would say, i'm still learning and i know for some people would think or say that my anatomy has issues and else but that's fine
Art styles are always evolving as time passes, it's not something permanent nor required. Don't worry much about it and instead focus in having fun while drawing ;)
Texture as in the real feel of the paper texture, or that the canvas doesn't look like a piece of paper?
Because both can be fixed
16:17
This is a digital sketch of mine with a few textures so it kinda looks like a traditional sketch
2
16:18
And 99% of drawing tablets already have a textured feel to them so the pen doesn't feel sloppy
iPad screen protectors like paperlike are also pretty popular since drawing on literal glass is the shittiest sensation ever
Druid of the Wuhu Seas(Dakota) ♠
And brush type too, depending on what type of brush stroke you go for.
The thing is most beginners I usually see only limit themselves to the default circle brushes, that look 100% digital and therefore they're unable to achieve a traditional feel. Most, if not all drawing programs have lots of traditional-like brushes which are pretty easy to use
So yeah, experiment with all brushes you got available guys, its fun
The canvas doesn't look like paper. I know they both can, not everyone knows that though, and to make it feel like paper you would need an external device right?
Because if you dont use a texture of course it doesnt look realistic enough
But with a paper texture and setting the layer to overlap the problem is mostly solve
Yodakiller3000 ♠
Feeling like paper when you press down the "pencil"
@Yodakiller3000 ♠
I used to draw with a finger myself and it was hard to make a straight line
There's a lot of muscle memory involved with art and it takes a while to develop, it takes time to get comfy with something
You on the hand, never really developed. So of course it's harder for you
Also you can't go and expect digital to be 100% like the experience on paper. Its like using, lets say, macOS and expecting it to behave just like windows
I actually was a mobile artist because hell yeah
And the feeling of the glass (or screen idfk) on my tablet felt pretty smooth, but that's just me
Also be sure to keep that shit clean
I should probably ping these people to see it

That's true! I wouldn't mind a little animation, if you're alright with that? If so, you're more than welcome to take as much time on it as you need, I'm pretty chill and patience when it comes to gifts.
Thanks! I'll get to work when possible, I still gotta catch up on yesterday & start today's work but I'll give your mii an animation test maybe by tomorrow
Oh yeah! The hopping out of bed was a little fidgety to animate, but it's all about gravity and the skeleton's reaction to said action, all and all, it was stressful, but in the end, I LOVED my work-
Also, OH! I used the wrong dinner table shot, whoops!

And for context, the one in the horns whose zooming and hopping all over the show is my character, Dakota, the one in the end of the table is Saburo, the one with the cup is Stephanie, the one that's looking at Dakota zooming around is Harper (Saburo and Stephanie's child) and the one taking a snooze is Keiko. 11:14
Oh yeah! I even have screenshots of the house I made for the animation!
I'm remaking my Discord icon, it's in the same style, but a different sona form.

Full scale pedophile you all should watch out for
She is almost 29 & tried to hide her age while dating a 17 year old as well as creeping on me & a few other people. If you see this woman, block her. And a reminder to always ask the age of the person you're dating before you start the relationship. She is on Instagram, YouTube, & Twitter. I started the whole mass exposure when I found something off about her & decided to speak up. Whatever you do, stay away from that creep. She likes to guilt trip.
Oh god, I remember that fucking lady, she followed me on Twitter before she sniffed out my account, she always wanted to talk to me in the comments or in dms. Most of my Mii friends warned me about her, being pretty stalker ish and flat out creepy.
07:00
I'm 25, but this still scares me a lot to death, knowing that she's a p3do and a total creep to many. I just really hope anyone that got affected by her are okay and far away from her. (edited)
She always asked me to follow me a lot and wanted to talk to me a lot too.
07:04
I'll be honest, I don't know if it's my autism or my social anxiety kicking in that time, but something was telling me that something just wasn't right with her and how she'd try to talk to me and to others.(edited)
I mean, I do have an escapism thingy for Miis, comfort character stuff, but wouldn't go too far with them being real. I remember that she thought I was a Mii in rl.
08:25
But for her? This is beyond anything like escapism, this is full on cuckoo.
Oh god, I remember that fucking lady, she followed me on Twitter before she sniffed out my account, she always wanted to talk to me in the comments or in dms. Most of my Mii friends warned me about her, being pretty stalker ish and flat out creepy.
I usually spend either 6 or 11 hours on each of my drawings so spending hours in art is a normal thing for me lol
The back and neck pains are also prominent

Used to have injuries in my dominant hand but these fingers have gone through so much nothing happens anymore
Did a couple more days, I do need to explain a little something though, due to my dyslexia, I misread Day 17's prompt for "Desk" instead of "Deck", so my apologies, lmao!
Day 17 - "Desk", with my Eyes of the Grave Dice Mimics riding on a desk chair in high speeds! XD
Day 18 - Glasses, with Luke from MySims Agents wearing his boyfriend, Cyrus' glasses beside a nighttime seaside~
His sprite had a glow up
the old one was just an emoji of his face I lazily extended with no base sketch which I also included

Some context to what's going on:
10:49
Saburo comes to rescue Blizzard and his mate, Stephanie from being chained up, as he rescues the two of them, Jackie and Asami try to shoo them away, Saburo tries to ask why they're doing this, Jackie explains that Matt has been exiled from the colony and a new head rat as announced himself, Saburo tries to get more information about the sudden exile, Asami becomes nervous about answering his questions, until a creature grabs her and slams her head into the ground, revealing that the new head rat is Pit, Saburo being shocked by Pit's entrance, he realises that this was all Pit's doing, challenging him to a fight for Matt's freedom, but this also means that Saburo has to say goodbye to Stephanie one last time before the fight and lets her run along with their cat companion, she says her last goodbyes to her mate and runs out of the cave, this leaves Saburo to face Pit, alone.
10:51
Actually, speaking of Wii Sports rats, here's a couple of rats I did as requests from a couple of people!
so with the previous game I was working on wrapping up I doodled some concept art for the next one
the name is a pun with 'mii' and 'minna' (meaning everyone) since we're gonna have a bunch of different creators involved
I drew @Nee-L and NekoFlish in the miitopia pop star kimono outfit (NekoFlish is Nad's mii based on the emoji, she's not in this server but she's a breadbug cafe admin)
Since this outfit can't be fitted to the miitomo rig I'm planning to model it custom for the miitomo blender rig, since this time we're planning to go with 3d renders of blender mii from the sprites instead of drawing everything
this is to make CGs easier and to make an animated intro more true to the miitomo style without modding in clothes that don't exist in miitomo
We haven't decided everything but we do know that Nee is the vocalist of the duo and Flish is a flute player/the composer of the two
Also credit to Nee for making the original Neko-flish design which is perfection 0:(edited)

Thats why its, in my opinion, very important to keep in touch with the art community when you are starting out. Sharing your work also helps marking your progress
04:27
The moment i created my instagram account i went from mediocre to decent in a matter of a year
I would say tiktok and twitter are your best bets when it comes to mainstream social media, and artstation if you get serious and want to do commissions
But yeah, for now you can choose one of two paths
- if youre just doing art as a fun activity, keep drawing the stuff you want as you usually do
- if you want to seriously improve, start by doing life studies and learn the fundamentals one by one. With effort and time you will start seeing improvements that you will easily apply to your art style
Fear to constructive criticism can be very harmful for your art journey, keep that in mind
04:38
If you ever want a deep analysis on your stuff you can count with me. I will try to explain myself the best I can and give you the tips and tricks that worked for me :)
DeviantArt is full of strange people nowadays that basically trace and spam edited versions of the trace, usually in a fetishistic manner. Which is why most artists that take things seriously don't use dA unless they're updating for old friends there. Be prepared to use the block button, I've come across some seriously unhinged people that randomly send out death threats (and...other....nsfw type threats) against people they don't like, such as random people in the news. I've had weirdos randomly message me there sending me nsfw and saying 'how do I draw this' and that's never happened on any other website.
I used to like the site but my opinion of it has plummeted. At least artstation has rules on nsfw and nudity where it can't be sexual in nature or feature minors. So artistic nudity is fine there. You don't need to be a pro to upload there, I've seen all levels of skill. It's for all artists anyways

I see :D
in our school we learned by doing the skeleton first, then muscle on top, then surface details
the most important part was gesture and making sure the pose was solid
Muscles attach to the bone which is why we learn those first, if your bone structure skills aren't strong then it doesn't matter how much you practice muscles, they won't look right

Another problem is making sure minors don't get on it
at some point minors will pretend to be adults, so if they make the choice to ignore all warnings, don't feel guilty. but when you do find out it's a minor, block them
My immune system used to be HORRIBLE until I started doing workouts in April as well as eating healthier. Right now, I do have an infected throat & was tested for strep, covid, flu, & even mono, but all were negative so idk what I got rn.

Never again, it's a pain in the ass and not worth the effort, stay away from it for god's sake
Axiom expands on the idea of Chirin (they have the same mii hair) especially in demeanour, with a shrinking violet, passive type personality
Chirin has been around since 2015
He's got long hair but no glasses and is very much a ginger lol
15:57
When I draw Chirin his hair is different from his mii because his design came first
Axiom was the reverse, the mii came first
In the end Axiom is more of a blank slate character for Miin/na Project's protag while Chirin was for his own thing originally. He'll be appearing in Miin/na Project though, along with a slew of other original characters

Art school has its perks
- you get to draw/sculpt/whatever you choose
- cool people to be friends with
- no studying (at least in my case, my grades depend on my projects)
Although the cons are
- hard time finding job
- society probably will bully you
- you have a chance of becoming a furry

A furry is like human & animal mix. So like humans with ears, tails, wings, etc are furries. It can be NSFW if extreme. My brother’s friend considers himself a furry only because he likes to dress like on in a game.

lol thanks, I'm not very good at sewing the last time I did anything was sewing buttons on a blouse and before that a highschool class on sewing for 2 weeks
I should get back into it tbh
I wanna learn so many things like sewing, cooking, 3D Modeling, action figure making, carpentry, woodcarving, & other stuff but there's only so much I can do rn
18:17
Good chunk of what I want to do kinda involves geometry, I love that subject, I was disappointed there's only trigonometry after it
18:18
There's a good reason to why I'm so bad at algebra, I can't discuss it but it was unfortunate. I wanted to learn chemistry but due to what went down, I lost that dream.
rip hhhh
you can 3d print your models for action figures and combine 2 birds with one stone, but it requires really solid anatomy skills
I'd suggest using vroid to make your characters tbh, it's like miitomo but for anime figures and there's more control over the hairstyle(edited)
you can also convert your vroid model to mmd really easily but most people use blender anyways
you can make versions that you can put mmd motions onto, inside blender

Plus a short 2 week comic class in highschool, every year we would get 2 weeks to take various classes offered by teachers like sewing, cooking, bookbinding, a sport, language, food science etc
I'm not perfectly happy with how the comic page turned out but I plan on doing more single page oneshots to build up a bit more skill.
Thank you so much! :D

New character sketch! He's a hybrid of a lot of things. I'm gonna draw the base later, then make a colored layer, and then shading/lighting/touch up layers.
His name is gonna be Narckie I think. He's a soldier, but he's literally a down to earth character.
If anything wrangling the AI to make anything coherent is a pita. I used the web version of stable diffusion once or twice (yeah it sucks) and found I like the results of craiyon better, colourwise. of course craiyon/dalle mini makes incoherent looking blobs instead of anything defined so it's not something anyone can legitimately use
17:16
img to img is powerful but it's also a generic-ifier
it totally lost the square-ish eyes and upwards pointing nose
yeah the AI isn't too great for references either
to really get the AI to make something powerful, paying for midjourney is pretty much a scam. You'd have to install stablediffusion and set up models for it yourself, merge the models, etc
What antivirus do you have?
You can probably just whitelist winrar, or get 7zip or bandizip. Those are both free and can open/create rars
02:20
If your antivirus doesn't have a whitelist option, you should get malwarebytes instead. if it's the default windows defender there should be a whitelist option
I hate it when artists beat themselves up. That's good art
08:05
I like the idea of the scanelines on the border. That really is something I like, scanlines and VHS stuff.
The nose idea is epic too! I did that over the top of an ai art and liked it. You even rotated the nose itself for the face position, extra awesome! The shine on the hair is good too!
The jacket actually looks like it's a little worn out. He's probably been fighting and has had enough
I really do like it, although there is some room for improvement I think. Usually I draw the top of the jacket. Around the neck as like a neck warmer sorta. The heads on miis are just big, so that's probably why I do that. I like your art style, great job.
AaaAAAaAAA I appreciate

And they married into the family so I'm not blood related to anyone royal

Anime is just the Japanese word for animation, they'd call Tom and Jerry and SpongeBob anime
21:42
If you use anime to generally describe the style of Japanese animation, it's pretty vague
Like, bee and puppycat s2 is made by a Japanese studio by a half Japanese woman, is it anime?
21:42
But season 1 wasn't made by the Japanese studio(edited)
They are, but in Japan, anime is just a catch all for any animation. I should know, it's my major and I've had a Japanese classmate and a Japanese roommate at this school lol, we've talked about it
Colloquially, there's been discussion about this term in the west being used to describe the style of Japanese cartoons, so I was curious as to what you instantly described Lilan's render as anime but not anything else made in blender as such 0:
11:59
https://youtu.be/uFtfDK39ZhI insightful video. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with it, but this guy studies and reviews anime for a living so his take is a lot more valuable than mine lol. Still, it's informative, give it a watch :D
Also wdym traditional vs anime???
Traditional usually refers to hand drawn, which most anime is, unless you mean old school painted cels which old anime did use too
12:06
Anime was inspired by the American animation during the war, tezuka, described as the father of anime and manga, loved Disney and Donald duck
He's even done Disney fanart lol
Eh, it depends on what she's going for. If she wanted the traditional mii style she'd just use game ripped miis anyways
13:05
Part of modeling is learning how to do appeal, and also topology so the face deforms well. I should know, I was only a little older than her when I started 3d as well lol

USE REFERENCES
Also, try sketching a cylinder that thickens/thins depending on the angle, and use that as your character base, a.k.a. just like if they were trapped inside a tube lol
Let me show an example I drew for spoon a while ago
The easiest way is to just get your blender file and make it an fbx, and make sure your materials are packed in your fbx. then you can use the 'convert shaders to arnold' to turn the fbx lambert materials into arnold materials
04:16
since there's a maya internal renderer that imported models have materials for
however, it tends to mess up the materials when you convert them from maya internal to arnold, so the easiest way is to set them up from scratch (and link the textures yourself)
04:17
yeah, if there's csv to maya plugins I'm not aware of them, so it's easiest to just do it in blender then port it
04:17
there's no benefit though, since the only features Arnold has over Cycles is some stuff related to glass refraction/dispersion abbe, and you can just use the pixar renderman renderer with blender instead of fiddling with Maya
now, while cracking it is an option, blender is just hassle free
if you really want the renderer benefits of Arnold, you can just use the free Pixar Renderman renderer
04:20
I think Dreamworks made their renderer open source as well
A community-developed Blender add-on for the Arnold renderer. - GitHub - lunadigital/btoa: A community-developed Blender add-on for the Arnold renderer.
MoonrRay Production Renderer: An open-source, performant, scalable and modern raytracing production renderer used in high-quality feature-film animation and simulation rendering.
This new release of RenderMan for Blender 24 (RfB) has been completely rewritten to take advantage of the RenderMan 24 toolset, including XPU™, Stylized Looks, and MaterialX Lama.
this bg was made in blender/cycles, so you can still get pretty water with blender
if anything I like the way this one came out more
both the water models are meshes I sculpted up instead of actually simulating water since I'm lazy
04:24
the background model is a common MMD stage though in PMX format, I didn't make it except for the banner
04:25
Arnold kept making the water black no matter what I did, it was even worse before, gonna ask my teacher tomorrow when he gives me feedback why it did that
04:25
oh yeah the mmd stage water was remade too, since the one that came with it was just a flat plane
this bg was made in blender/cycles, so you can still get pretty water with blender

yeah cycles is intense, if you can't use cycles, then arnold, renderman and moonray will be even worse
cycles is a bit lighter than those three at the expense of glass refraction
You still need to pay a small fee for using their GPU
However people host discord bots and Minecraft servers totally free this way so I recommend making a virtual credit card to try it!
Me who's using the Adobe suite
Foss and open-source is great, but there's not a lot of speed involved in making programs that can truly replace the proprietary stuff used within the industry (or krita running in pain somehow), or no equivalent to InDesign, max or lightroom, XD. Not in a long time
And because of that, Adobe will just make more buggy and unfinished apps and the simps have no issue with that(edited)
When it comes to shading with pencils, like graphite, you would go from light to dark, and it's usually easier to see value (i.e tones and shades of grey) there.
20:54
However, it's not that easy to see with coloured pencils, so I have some general tips to either make your drawing more lively
While colour pencils are waxier than graphite, I still see people use cross hatching, hatching, stippling, and many more to create interesting textures for your art. These textures can be overlayed to make something "darker". You can take a look at this article for more detail

Note that using too many textures can make your drawing look confusing if you have no idea what you're doing, so I recommend using just one. If you are using 2 or 3, choose one as your primary shading method(edited)
Whether coloured pencils are your tools of trade or you haven’t picked them up for years, sharpen your skills with these 15 coloured pencil techniques. 1. Burnishing Burnishing coloured pencils, sounds a little intimidating, but fear not! This technique is achieved by layering and layering until there’s no sign of pape

Colour pencils can be blended together with a stump like graphite, and while you can buy them, making one at home is easy too(edited)
20:56
And recommended if you're on a budget
21:00
I personally suck at smooth blending, so I don't use stumps
For actual shading- shading from light to dark with one colour is fine- but not good if you want to have multiple colours. What you would want to do, is blend colours of different hues together (hues are base colour, like red and blue), so you can achieve a more interesting look altogether.
21:03
For example, if I want to colour brown hair, I would have something like cream, orange-brown, and oak as the three parts used for hair shading. Unfortunately since I don't have any examples myself since I'm at my college rn, so here's something I found online(edited)
21:07
21:09
Okay this is more realistic, but you can reduce colours of you wish to fit your preferences. But I want you to look at the colours used
You can see from this chart here that these colours have different hue, but they look like they're the same because they belong in the same tone- the first three would be "earthy" colours
21:15
Here I use more yellow-ish colours for highlights, but it's still "brown hair". I also use only 2 colours. They should have different values, obviously.
For me, good hair shading is not straying too far from what's fitting. You can experiment, but that requires knowing colour theory, and unfortunately, to learn colour theory in depth will take more than just this tutorial, so you have to look up resources for that by yourself(edited)
21:17
Same with anatomy, if you continue to work on both simultaneously, that's great. I think my example is passable, Luci is better than this than me
21:20
And you're probably wondering: why use different hues? Can't I use black? That's like, how I see things in real life!
Yeah the brain is really good at fooling us too. Plus, if you look really close at any object, alive or not (or just use the eye dropper), you'll realise that it's not black, it's probably like green, blue, oak, indigo, etc.
21:22
If you do cel-shading, a rule of thumb is colder colours are generally the "darker" colour, where hotter ones are lighter. For painting, this isn't always the case, and my paintings look like eyesore for that reason lol. Some examples(edited)
21:26
21:27
It'll take a long, long time to truly paint like the masters (a.k.a normal people), so I suggest you stick with cel-shading like I suggest.(edited)
21:30
And even if this is digital art, the same principles also apply to shading coloured pencils, watercolour, and any traditional medium at your disposal. I'd argue with limited colours it's actually better for you to stay focused and practice very specific skills on recognising values and train colour theory- that's why I like colour palette challenges a lot
21:32
Digital art gives you more free reign with millions of colours, but it's to the beginner's detriment, imo
21:33
But on the opposite side shading with black just because you never tried life studies before is also bad
So in short:
-colder colours are usually darker tones, and hot colours are usually brighter tones
-since coloured pencils are not paint, the best way to make it interesting is using the same techniques used for graphite pencil drawings
-Colouring goes from light to dark as you overlap layers of pencil together.
-Colour theory is useful when you want to make your shading even more interesting without turning into rainbow vomit and neon hell
-Please don't shade with black. Real life doesn't look that way unless it's done intentionally, like vantablack. However, white works great with dull hues. Even the light if off-white irl, but I don't recommend you look at your lamps or the sun to find out
-please never follow my example lol. I have a bit of knowledge but my art isn't something most people prefer(edited)
I have forgotten about comic books writing this, so I guess I'll explain that now
1. Yes, black is used to shade, but using cross-hatching and treating the black as its own layer is better than spraying it on the skin. If you are drawing people, we have red blood, and it's easier to see a bit of pink flush on the face because our skin is thinner there. As for the clothes, there's no such thing as wearing true black
2. The reason comic book line art stayed black, is because they used to be cheap to print by design. 4 colour printers were new at the time, and they didn't play well with anything like dark blue or grey with 80% black. It's why most comic strips and early books are brightly coloured. It's to keep things cheap, and maybe attract kids. I wouldn't call Dick Tracy or Blondie a kids' comic. These days I still often use complete black for my line art whenever I intend to print it, because well, I remember that. Digital anime artists think black line art is ugly, but I don't care what they think lol(edited)
06:06
Some veterans suggest you should make your comic art with the darkest ink you can buy because they don't want their art to look bad on print(edited)
06:06
Mix different ink brands to achieve that eternal darkness too
06:09
Colour woodprint also treats black as the last thing you apply, and modern printers based their mechanics on this too(edited)
to help with shading, it's a good idea to roughly construct your character out of boxes so you can see the planar forms more easily :D once you shade those planar forms, they'll look less boxy
next, we'll define our light sources. I think there's a light directly from the side, and also a little from the top judging from the shadow under the coat projected onto the hip
15:54
roughly defining the planes of the face. With stylized characters you can simplify em, but there's a trianglular patch where the cheek juts out that catches the light that looks really pretty if you do it right, and gives the face dimension without having a ton of detail
15:55
with the hair the head looks a bit too big for the body so I'll adjust that
15:57
roughly drawn in face shading, you can see the cheek triangle
15:58
manufactured objects like belt buckles should catch the light on their rim, especially if they're thin
15:59
the things that wrap around his arms have volume, which you tried to capture, but drawing them all the way around helps visualize it in 3d
16:01
for the sake of shading we can simplify the shoulder spike/cones into pyramids
If I remember right, it's important to consider each structure of a drawing. Yhe face has a certain structure and the shading is adapted to the light source and facial structure. Right?
the torso is like a cylinder, so there would only be light shading on the zipper area/where the shirt plits down the middle, and most of it would be to one side of him
in this case the face doesn't have cheekbones, but the face is more defined than the original drawing for sure. If you want to make it softer you can still do that, there's a way
I remember it thought my cat on a brown couch was nsfw
16:31
Ok I think this is how I'd recommend the lighting to cast over him
1
16:32
but really for stylized characters I'd recommend doing cel shading first, since it mostly blocks out the shadows, and learning cross hatching later
16:32
adding hatching really defines a characters face and removes that softness, and if you hatch the entire body but not the face it'll stick out like a sore thumb. which is why most stylized artists don't do it
16:33
like here's some art of a pretty stylized character, but the face shading is very fine despite the hatching on the clothes
16:33
this drawing of Eike has more hatching on the face but even then, it's still pretty smoothed out
16:34
since the face is a focal point and so important in a character, it has to be really delicate
16:34
but you can get more rough and loose on the clothes. still, compare the size of each stroke relative to the character on Eike vs your original drawing, and try to make a smaller size when hatching
16:35
even in this art only her face is shaded differently. Tbh I don't like that her face is more grey while the rest of the shading is brown but it's eh
16:36
they do it again here
Thorn Rose Gold

This started because she wanted to know how to shade with coloured pencils, and uhhh
I don't think you can do it without using traditional pencil techniques
I do have these as examples of stylized characters and hatching
16:48
there is minimal shading on the faces

To all Wii Play fans..
Who gets this feeling of triumph when you dominate the first 20 levels when you play Tanks for the first time?
I have, so I recreated a popular favorite.
Wait I think it was posted once before
I guess there's this cursed image my friends and I all contributed to creating (but me, mostly, I did the research for the artstyle)
i had the same issue! auto weight is kind of dodgy, but you can use the transfer weights tool to copy all the weight painting from the completed tutorial.

There's only two OCs I've created on my own.
This is one: Alice.

There are adjectives and words derived from Latin and Ancient Greek :
Heart/cardiac (Ancient Greek "kardía")
Eye/ocular (Latin "oculus")
Hand/manual (Latin "manus")
Femur/femoral ("Femur" itself derived from Latin)

More examples :
cat/feline
dog/canine
cow/bovine
horse/equine
sheep/ovine
skull/cranial
blood/haemal
door/portal
mother/maternal
father/paternal
It shows that English has a significant vocabulary derived from Latin and Ancient Greek
